Clara E. Coleman Elementary School is one of thirty schools being recognized by General Mills and Box Tops for Education during the program’s 30th anniversary celebration, earning a $30,000 donation to support its students and school community.
Coleman representatives were invited to the first of three Box Tops for Education Dream Big celebrations on Aug. 10, 2026 on center court at Madison Square Garden. The event honored the impact of education, celebrated the communities that support local schools, and highlighted the importance of investing in students’ futures. Coleman HSA co-presidents, Kristen Roth and Becky Weil, and HSA Assistant Treasurer, Sophie Baumgold, attended the event as representatives of Coleman.
As part of the anniversary celebration, each of the 10 schools recognized at this first Dream Big event received 300,000 Bonus Box Tops, equivalent to $30,000 in funding. The recognition is part of a yearlong initiative through which Box Tops for Education is honoring 30 schools in celebration of its three decades of helping families raise money for education.
Coleman has participated in Box Tops for Education for many years, giving families an easy way to support their school through everyday purchases. The program awards participating schools $0.10 for each qualifying Box Tops product purchased, with earnings available for schools to use at their discretion. Coleman anticipates receipt of the funds in late December. The school principal, Mr. Edward Thompason, and HSA leadership are actively discussing how best to use the money to benefit students and the broader school community.
Thompson said he was very pleased with the announcement. “We are so fortunate to have been chosen for this honor!” he said. “We appreciate being recognized and are thankful to our community for supporting us through General Mills products. Coleman School looks forward to sharing this resource with our students and staff in the coming years!”
Families can continue to support Coleman and other Glen Rock schools through the Box Tops for Education app, which allows users to earn money for the school by purchasing participating products from brands including Cheerios, Annie’s, Nature Valley, Pillsbury, and Betty Crocker. Rather than clipping physical Box Tops, families can scan receipts through the Box Tops for Education app or link their Walmart accounts to automatically earn credit on eligible purchases.
“All of Glen Rock’s elementary schools are registered Box Tops schools, so the biggest opportunity is simply spreading the word and getting more families signed up!” explained HSA co-presidents, Roth and Weil. “Every Box Top adds up. It’s one of the easiest ways to raise money for our school, using purchases many of our families are already making.”
Families can download the app, select their participating school, and begin earning money through purchases. Coleman’s $30,000 recognition underscores the meaningful impact that community partnerships and family participation can have on a school. Congratulations to the Coleman families on earning this incredible recognition and award!
